The objectives of New Zealand Calligraphers are:

To encourage interest in calligraphy and related arts.
To associate with other persons and groups with similar interests.
To publish and circulate information to members.
To advance the standard of calligraphy in New Zealand.

By being a member this will give you three newsletters each year, updates on workshops being held, events of interest, contact with other calligraphers and societies, and much more. Gemma Black is one of Australia’s distinguished calligraphers from Canberra. She is a Churchill Fellow, a Guild Member of the Australian Society of Calligraphers and an Honoured Fellow of the prestigious Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society, UK. For over 20 years Gemma has taught extensively in Canberra and around Australia. She has also joined the faculty at international lettering-art conferences and taught in the USA, Canada and the UK. Her work hangs in many private and public collections including a recent acquisition by the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK and the Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples Manuscript, on public view in Parliament House, Canberra.

Gemma has just completed a teaching weekend here in New Zealand on 27 and 28 March on Colour, Collage & Calligraphy which was a great success. (see more)

May 1 & 2: Vivacious Versals — versal forms from every genre ... In this two-day workshop we will touch on the basic versal, the versal history then experience chronological examples from the Grandval Bible through to Irene Wellington, David Jones and to the wild & contemporary.

The Auckland Wednesday Night Group.

The Wednesday Night Group usually meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. Everyone from beginner to expert is welcome to join in.

The library

The library is housed at the Mt Albert Community Centre. It is available to members on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of the month, between 7 and 9pm from February to December.

Contributions for the magazine and web site

Do you have something you'd like to contribute to our magazine or web site? We are always looking for articles and calligraphic artwork of interest to members.

Pieces should be black and white and up to A4 size.

If you would like your originals returned to you, please enclose a stamped and addressed envelope.
